“What happens when you perform a sit-up?” Dr. McGill asked himself in an interview with Maclean’s Magazine. “The spine is ﬂexed into the position at which it damages sooner.”…“There are only so many bends in your spine until the discs eventually herniate.”
While there are a lot of ways to injure a back, Dr. McGill claims the sit-up is an easily preventable one. He has developed a series of exercises that strengthen the core while not bending the spine.
